Tobermory (A Haiku Collection)

Collage_20160224-054903

Author’s Note: This is long overdue. I visited Tobermory last September and that place is really amazing. It’s been five months and I’m still inspired to write about it (finally!). Tobermory is located in Ontario, Canada, around 5hr drive (to North) from Toronto and it involves trekking. The 5-hr drive and the hike are all worth it. I wish to go back there this summer and be once again inspired with nature.

Endure every step
An amazement is waiting
Nature’s true beauty

A water so clear
A lake so still and peaceful
It’s pure, it’s calming

Rocks in various forms
Arts and shapes leaving an awe
Nature’s mystery

A view from the cliff
It’s grotto, blue sky, vast lake
It’s tranquility

Sky changed to orange
Stars spreading in horizon
Truly inspiring

Enjoy every hike
Journey to a miracle
It’s Tobermory

Spring In Feb (Climate Change Effect)

Author’s Note: This weather is confusing. Last weekend was warm then today is snowing. This is my 6th winter in Ontario, Canada and it is surprisingly warm. Then this morning, I also came across this article from cp24.

I heard squirrels are getting fat
Raccoons are wondering the spot
Spiders are also weaving webs
Flowers are now blooming in Feb

Sixteen degrees during winter!
Bunnies are hopping everywhere
Grasses are green, no trace of snow
The rivers have started to flow

Winter no more! Springtime is here
Let’s put away our winter gear
Then today, it’s snowing again
And it’ll be back to minus ten

Temperature goes down and up
It isn’t good, nature’s messed up
Earth’s confused, it’s global warming
This climate change is worsening.

Snow / Nyebe

IMG_20140415_071132

Author’s Note: Since it’s been snowing, I’m posting this poem I wrote in 2013 about snow. Originally written in Filipino then I later translated it in English (in 2014) though I still prefer the Filipino version.

Snow (English Version):

Miracle of nature
This you will discover
Beauty of nature
This you will experience

Surroundings are all white
It will amaze you
It will give you awe
Even trouble will be gone

In each flake, in each fall
It will give you joy
Cotton-field surroundings
This is Christmas’ scene

Mystery of nature
This you will see
Open your heart and soul
Let it mark your memories

Nyebe (Filipino and Original Version):

Hiwaga ng kalikasan
Ang siyang matutuklasan
Kariktan ng kalikasan
Ang siyang masasaksihan

Kapaligira’y kay puti
Tunay ngang mabibighani
Mamamangha pa parati
Sulirani’y mapapawi

Bawat butil, bawat patak
Katumbas nito ay galak
Mababalutan ng bulak
Diwang pasko ang halimuyak

Misteryo ng kalikasan
Ang siyang matatagpuan
Puso’t isipan ay buksan
Alaala ay bakasan

In The Sky / Sa Himpapawid

sky

Author’s Note: This was written last year while on board a plane from Vancouver to Toronto. It was a clear day and seeing the Rocky Mountains below me just amazed me. It was a ~5hr flight and with the time zone difference, I also saw how the horizon changed its hue. The pictures were also taken from this flight. Btw, the original version is the one written in Filipino but both were written on the same day/flight.

In The Sky

This nature fascinates me
Wherever I look, the beauty stuns me
Mystery envelopes the surroundings
A smile to my lips and happiness it brings

Tall mountains with snow peak I see
Clouds with various shapes I see
Blue and white, it really amazes me
Truly brings out the kid in me

The sun will soon set, it will soon fade
The colors will change, the sky blue will then fade
This change entertains yet inspires me
As the dusk breaks, I have lots of light in me

Piercing Cold

Cool breeze is the greeting
In my early morning
The wind chill is piercing
Numbness! I’m freezing!

Outside, I am standing
And I don’t mind waiting
As long as it’s snowing
And wind is not blowing

Thick clothes I am wearing
And I am still trembling
Hands and knees are shaking
Headache – I am having

Mercury is dropping
Thermostat is breaking
Now for spring, I’m longing
As this cold is piercing

Tag-Lagas

Huni’t awit ng ibon ay maglalaho
Mga hayop ay ayan na’t nagsisitago
Puno’y natutuyo, daho’y naglalagas
Magsisimula na muli ang tag-lagas

Lumalamig at gumiginaw na naman
Manipis na damit, di na kailangan
Init ng panahon ay di mababakas
Magsisimula na muli ang tag-lagas

Hahaba ang gabi, iikli ang araw
Matutulog lang at hindi na gagalaw
Tatamarin na rin ako lalong lumabas
Magsisimula na kasi ang tag-lagas

Ride and Glide in Niagara

Physically tired but mentally relaxed
Didn’t notice the time has lapsed
I want to capture every moment
If only I can freeze every movement
I want to fall and enjoy the ride
So come on! Let’s take a walk and glide

I got physically ill but my mind is at its best
Staring at this amazing falls is like a rest
The water is flowing, being part of the ocean
It’s indescribable and wonderful creation
I got coughs but I want to finish this ride
So come on! Let’s do this and glide
